Welcome

If you have found your way here, you are probably searching for answers. Perhaps you are the parent of a student who struggles academically. Perhaps you are a teenager or a young adult and despite your best efforts you fall short when it comes to managing time, meeting deadlines, keeping track of materials for class, and breaking projects into manageable pieces.

Are you looking for someone to walk alongside you and help you make sense of it all?

Have you tried tutoring and found that you need something more but you’re not sure what?

Have you ever wished that someone would take the time to look past the deficits and see the potential, not just the problems; to help you identify your, or your child’s unique strengths and weaknesses?

YOU MAY BE WONDERING . . .

“What can an educational therapist do for me?”

The goal of educational therapy is to empower students to become independent, self-confident, lifelong learners.

An educational therapist works with clients to improve academic performance in areas such as reading, writing, spelling, math, study skills, and critical thinking skills. Focused attention is given to remediation of gaps in learning and strengthening weak foundation skills that contribute to the client’s struggles.

A therapist will also address non-academic skills that are critical for academic success: learning strategies, organization and time management skills, problem solving, attention, self-esteem, developing awareness of strengths and weaknesses, self-advocacy skills, and motivation.

Each client’s socio-emotional needs are addressed by taking time to establish and grow a relationship that results in a safe place to express feelings that affect learning, and by promoting insight into the connections between emotions, behavior, and learning.

About

Our Story

At Cognitive Canvas Learning Clinic, we understand the overwhelming emotions of parents who watch their children struggle academically. It’s heart-wrenching to see poor grades, behavioral issues, and social struggles rob a child of their confidence. This shared journey with countless families ignited our passion to help. Founders Kathy and Larry Shudra, both certified educators with decades of experience, recognized a critical gap in traditional tutoring methods. We were deeply moved by the realization that many students were asked to meet developmental demands they weren’t ready for, falling into a cycle of compensatory strategies that hindered their growth.

In 2026, we founded Cognitive Canvas, a family-run clinic focused on identifying the root causes of learning challenges. We are dedicated to uncovering developmental gaps that lead to ineffective coping strategies. It was through extensive training in neuroscience and understanding human development that we discovered the transformative potential of our approach. We adopted a unique method that embraces developmental hierarchies, empowering students to cultivate essential skills.

Cognitive Canvas personalized programs don’t just improve academic performance; they foster independent, resilient learners. Once barriers are removed, students can flourish emotionally and intellectually. Families walk away equipped with not only academic strategies but also a clearer understanding of their child’s learning journey.

With our wealth of experience and dedication, we aim to ensure that it’s never too late for anyone—whether struggling students, adults seeking cognitive optimization, or athletes refining their performance. When the right methods meet the right guidance, the results speak for themselves. Join us as we celebrate progress and transformation at Cognitive Canvas Learning Clinic, where everyone can unlock their fullest potential.

Services

Assessment     An accurate assessment is an absolutely critical first step in creating an effective, personalized plan of intervention. Initially, a good assessment provides information of vital importance about an individual’s level of developmental and academic maturation. Periodic assessments, formal and informal, may be used to monitor progress. Without a comprehensive evaluation and diagnosis, any plan devised would only be a guess as to what action should be taken. For more information about academic assessment click here.

One-on-one Intervention     One-on-one academic intervention is the heart and soul of educational therapy. Educational therapy is not tutoring. As Iconix instructors, we understand and base our instruction on the hierarchical development of visual thought — first learning to see and then seeing to learn. Aligning instruction with developmental hierarchies yields better outcomes. Each intervention plan is carefully crafted to address each student’s specific constellation of needs. Seeing My Time®     Many students and adults struggle with deficits in time management and organization skills. The Seeing My Time program is appropriate for middle school students through adults who have difficulty with time management, procrastination in connection with starting work or projects, meeting deadlines, planning ahead, over-scheduling, and poor paper management. For more information on the Seeing My Time program and how you or your child might benefit, click here.

Handwriting Without Tears®     It is estimated that between 10 and 30% of elementary students experience difficulty mastering handwriting skills. Research also shows a positive correlation between academic success and the quality of handwriting. Handwriting Without Tears is an award-winning, multisensory curriculum that addresses every aspect of writing from printing to cursive and keyboarding.
